This was a great symbol to look at : Nicky Guerrero, scandinavian skateboarding legend and Rune Glifberg together on the highest step of the Quiksilver Bowlriders 2008 in Malmö.
For sure, this is the strong image of this 9th edition of the event, prestigious leg of the World Cup of Skateboarding (WCS).
“I’m stocked that both Nicky and I won. He’s been my lifetime inspiration”. 33 year old Danish skateboarder Rune Glifberg adds another great win to his amazing prize list. At the same time, he gets a 9000 euros prize money and a Suzuki motorbike.
Rune Glifberg is an international skateboarding star since the 80’s and one of most recognized European skateboarders in the US. This year, he won the Quiksilver Bowlriders for the second time in a row.
As he did last year, Rune impressed the crowd with his self-control and consistent skateboard, knocking down all his opponents. Not far from his hometown Copenhagen, Rune showed how comfortable he feels in the Stapelbaddsparken. His knowledge of the spot is certainly one of the key of his huge success.
Nevertheless, the Danish king deserves his win and not only because he’s almost a local guy… His huge backside disaster on the wall, cab heel flips backside tail side seduced the 5 judges.
An authentic skateboarding star was born today in Malmö. The 18 years old American rookie Aaron Homoki eclipsed the favourites with his inspired and energic riding. He finished second of the event for his first participation in a big contest. Coming from Phoenix, Arizona, the young gun made an impressive display of thrilling transfers over the main plateform and perfects technical tricks.
American Benji Galloway, 30, gets a deserved 3rd place. Powerful and focused with his headphone on, Benji posted strong airs and perfectly landed transfers.
Andy Scott finishes at the fourth place of the contest. The Englishman scored a perfect flip indy over the canyon, destroying the big pool and the wall but misses the podium.
Despite his speed and his perfect lines, Ross McGouran (UK) did not make it to the podium.
2007 Bowlriders finalist, Swedish Mathias Nylen, took again the 6th and last position of the final.
For the first time since its creation, the Quiksilver Bowlriders was gathering a “Master of legends” contest with the skaters that shaped the Sport’s History and the greatest characters of Dogtown.
Christian Hosoi, still sharp, finishes 4th of the final just behind his fellow Pat Ngoho. With his pink old shaped board, the Santa Cruz skater proved his amazing style is still alive, in this modern park.
The great winner of the Masters contest is Danish Nicky Guerrero. Scandinavian skateboarding star posted a strong win over American favourite Chris Miller. After placing fourth in the final of the main event last year, Guerrero blew up the final with his legendary inverts, kick flips and Madonna.
